Germany electricity market: prices and generation

Explore available power market information and put spot-price movements into procurement context.

Spot versus procurement price

Day-ahead hourly prices are wholesale market signals, not the final electricity price paid by an industrial customer.

Renewable generation

Wind and solar production influence price patterns, but regional constraints, demand, imports and flexible capacity also matter.

Use data appropriately

Live dashboards may rely on third-party data availability and cache intervals; use verified timestamps and separate historical data from forecasts.

How to interpret published electricity-market data

Wholesale price is not a retail offer

Day-ahead market prices describe wholesale trading and do not include all charges on a commercial customer electricity bill.

Generation versus load

Wind and solar generation vary by weather and time; load varies by season and activity. Review units and timestamps when comparing different data series.

Data quality and sources

Use timestamps, market area, source attribution and the published unit for each measurement. Delayed updates or temporarily missing source data should never be shown as current.
